White & Case Assists in Subway Procurement
White & Case assists MTR in connection with its successful tender for the contract to operate the subway in Stockholm. SL, Stockholm's public transport owner, announced that MTR will operate the subway for eight years, with possibility for a six-year extension. According to SL, "MTR submitted the best bid from a quality standpoint". The procurement is probably one of the largest in the world this year. The White & Case team in Stockholm consists of Claes Zettermarck, Fredrik Schultz, Johan Berg, Henrik Wireklint and Mina Lindgren.

Anders Reldén New Chairman for SYJ
Anders Reldén has been appointed chairman of Arbitration Association for Young Lawyers at the SCC Institute (SYJ). The association brings together Swedish lawyers under the age of 45, who work with arbitration and commercial litigation. SYJ aims at increasing the younger lawyers knowledge of, and interest in, Swedish and international arbitration.

New Partner in Stockholm
Jan Lombach, active in the area of M&A and Capital Markets, joins the Stockholm office as a new partner in White & Case. He is a preeminent Capital Markets lawyer, recognized both internationally and in Sweden. Jan will be the head of the Capital Markets practice in the Stockholm office. Prior to joining White & Case, Jan was a partner in the law firm Vinge in Stockholm.

Disasters in Asia
Earlier this month two natural disasters – an earthquake in China and a cyclone in Myanmar – hit Asia, destroying communities and leaving millions of people without clean water, food or shelter. White & Case has been active in China for more than 30 years, and the Firm is contributing $100,000 to the Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts in China.

Legal publishers Chambers & Partners recently launched a new guidebook to cover the European markets in more detail. In the 2008 edition of Chambers Europe, White & Case was ranked in tier one in the area of Private Equity in Sweden. In the largest private equity deal to date in 2008, White & Case represents private equity firm Nordic Capital and US-based Avista Capital Partners in connection with their successful $4.1 billion bid to purchase the ConvaTec business unit from Bristol-Myers Squibb. White & Case Assists SSAB
In addition to the USD 8.8 billion acquisition facility for SSAB's acquisition of IPSCO during the summer of 2007, White & Case has during the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008 successfully assisted SSAB in connection with a set of refinancing facilities, which consist of (i) loan facilities in the aggregate amount of USD 4.25 billion and a EUR 2 billion medium term note program.
The bank finance transactions mentioned above together with the acquisition process when SSAB acquired IPSCO and the completed SEK 10 billion rights offering during 2007 shows the full width of bank finance, M&A and capital markets services that White & Case can offer locally in Sweden as well as together with its foreign colleagues and that it has the capacity to assist clients in the largest transactions in Sweden during 2007.

Mergermarket recently released its league table for 2007 for legal advisers acting for the debt providers on buy-outs. New Management in the Stockholm Office
White & Case in Stockholm has as of 1 January 2008 a new management, which consists of Ulf Johansson as executive partner and Anna Sundberg as administrative partner. Ulf has worked in the Stockholm office since 1991 and Anna since 1997. The former executive partner, Göran Åseborn, will be focusing on client work fulltime.
